THAIFEST@MARYSVILLE - 19 Mar 2010

The Thai community of Victoria is supporting the bushfire affected regions of Victoria by taking the Melbourne Thai Festival on the road this year - to Marysville on March 19-20, 2010.

This popular, annual family cultural festival-- which is traditionally held at Federation Square -- will be brought to Marysville by the Thai Community to support the communities of Marysville and surrounding districts to help them to rebuild.

The event will not only raise awareness of the region and encourage visitors to return to Marysville, but all funds raised through the event will be donated to a local community projects as part of the rebuilding process.

There are some fantastic events on during the two day festival including:-
Ø Thai Drum Parade & Traditional dances
Ø Thai Cooking demonstrations
Ø Ancient & contemporary Thai Musicians
Ø Thai BBQ on Friday evening
Ø Live music on the Main Stage on Friday night
Ø Thai Restaurant Food and desert stalls
Ø Singha Beer Garden- Famous Thai beer - on Friday and Saturday
Ø 17 Performers direct from Thailand - the amazing Thai International Dance Group Sbun-Nga
Ø Marysville and District local product stalls
Ø Buddhist ceremony
Ø Marysville Student performances
Ø Traditional Thai Massage
Ø Muay Thai
The Festival will also be at held at Federation Square on Sunday March 21, 2010. The two festivals are organised by the Thai Culture and Food Festival Inc, a not-for profit Association incorporated in Victoria.

With a growing Thai community in Melbourne of more than 10,000, including thousands of Thai students studying, over 350 restaurants and the close relationship that Thailand and Australia have, through travel, trade, education and defence, these events enables the communities to celebrate the traditional Songkran festival, as well as sharing with others Thai culture and food.
