In 2010 Big Fi$h Competition was won by Alexandra local, Ronnie Clarke who caught a Rainbow Trout worth $50,000 Big Ones!
The $50,000-tagged fish was caught on the banks of the Goulburn River in the heart of Alexandra by local Ronnie who at 17 years of age, has a passion for fishing and fishes nearly every day of the week. He would one day like to become a fisherman by trade.
A giant $50,000 cheque was presented to the lucky young lad by the bushfire recovery group’s chairman – Paul Albone “We are really pleased with the number of people that have visited the area as a result of the competition and that Ron has shown that it is possible to catch one of the tagged fish. I hope this entices more people to come and visit the area and try their luck”, said Albone.
The aim of the fishing competition is to encourage visitors back to the region and promote safe and proper fishing practices. The MMBTRG has encouraged safe and legal fishing behaviour throughout the competition and the state fishing regulations have applied to all entrants for the BIGFI$H competition.
